Air compressor run capacitor. If you hear clicking coming from the motor, or if the motor overheats, it might be time to replace the run capacitor.

The run capacitor takes over and provides the extra power to run the air compressor for extended periods once the compressor has started. When the air compressor is running, both capacitors create and store energy to provide power for the next cycle.
