Kobalt Compressor Service Tips

Here are some Kobalt compressor service tips. Check out our website at MasterToolRepair.com for schematics for parts and other technical assistance.

1. Complete Pump/Motor Replacement.

• Electric motor has failed, windings, or brushes have shorted or burned out.
• Piston Ring or Cylinder is worn, scored, or broken.
• Belt is broken or cogs are stripped to point of belt slipping.
• Fan is broken or bent beyond straitening.
• Pump frame is crack or broken.

2. Electric Motor will not start.

• Check 30 amp mini prong fuse located on bottom inside of motor. Slide fan shroud forward as far as possible without bending fan. Fuse is located inside windings on bottom of motor. This can be caused by customer using extension cord.
• Check continuity through power cord for broken, damaged wires, or defective plug.

3. Valve Plate Replacement.

• Replace valve plate if reed valves are bent, cracked, or broken.

4. Compressor pumps to shut off pressure but will not shut off.

• Diode located on bottom right side of control board must have screw in it to make to ground.
• Control Board not cutting unit off at shut off pressure, or digital display not reading pressures. Check integrity of O-Rings under control board if good replace control board.

5. Manifold Assy. Replacement.

• If leaking air check internal o-rings for replacement.
• If manifold housing is damaged, cracked, or melted replace complete manifold assemble.

6. Pressure Regulator Knob not adjusting pressure.

• Knob may have been forced to far counter clockwise causing plunger to be pushed back into knob. Check for broken parts in manifold assemble.

7. Unit not pumping up to pressure.

• Make sure petcock valve on bottom of tank is closed.
• Remove top shroud and check all transfer tube fittings making sure properly tightened.
• Check piston, cylinder, and valve plate for wear or damage.

8. After any component replacement is completed make sure all wiring is tied back away from transfer tubes.
